VERONICA OKELLO
Veronica Okello is a researcher and a lecturer at Machakos University in the Department of Physical Sciences and also doubles up as the Director of Quality Assurance.
Veronica has a PhD in Analytical/Environmental Chemistry from State University of New York at Binghamton, USA.
Currently, her research focuses on the development of green sustainable remediation approaches for heavy metals and non-conventional pharmaceuticals pollutants, persistent organic pollutants. In addition, she also has interest in the development of nanoscale materials that offer new possibilities for the development of novel remediation and environmental monitoring technologies.
Veronica has participated as a trainee in several Chemical Safety and Security Programs both locally and internationally and she is currently actively involved in the development of a curriculum that will see the inclusion of Chemical Safety, Chemical Security and Chemical Weapons Convention into University Curriculum in Kenya. Worth noting is her recent participation in Global Chemists’ Code of Ethics Science and Technology Leadership Program that was held in May in Nairobi, Kenya and the Reputable Chemical Supplier Workshop, organized by Sandia International Laboratories, USA, held in Serena Beach Hotel, Mombasa.
In addition, she is the founder and coordinator of Go Green MksU club, a vibrant student club operating on the principles of Green Chemistry. In her spare time, Veronica enjoys participating in mentorship programs for students and community development projects where in the later she is actively involved in promotion of Chemical Safety and Security programs in both formal and non-formal institutions/sectors.
